A comedy writing contest for WritersNL Members ages 30 and under!
(July 22, 2022) – WritersNL is so excited to announce our brand new writing contest for Youth – “You Crack Me Up!”
For this contest, we’re asking WritersNL Members (ages 30 and under), to write a comedic story (up to 750 words), using FIVE out of SEVEN words from the following list:
• festival • project • lie • art • date • second • contract
All kinds of comedy – horror, romance, dark comedy, tragicomedy, farce, deadpan, observational, etc. – are welcome.
Writers of the top five selected submissions will take home the coveted first, second, third place + runners-up titles (and the accompanying financial prizes), and we’ll show your work off at Unscripted in Twillingate, running from September 15-18, 2022!
Winning works will be turned into a poster to be displayed at the festival’s Art Gallery, and will later be shipped directly to the winners, ready to frame/hang in your home.
The prizes are:
1st place: $125
2nd place: $100
3rd place: $75
Runner Up x2: $50 each
This writing contest is open to all WritersNL Youth members (ages 30 and under) in good standing.
Interested writers can become WritersNL Members at the time of submission. Regular Memberships are $55/year, $135/3 years, and $225/5 years. Student/Senior/Underemployed Memberships are $25/year. WritersNL offers free memberships to writers ages 18 and under, as well as free memberships to BIPOC writers.
HOW TO ENTER:
1) Write a comedic story (up to 750 words) (all kinds of comedy – horror, romance, dark comedy, tragicomedy, farce, deadpan, observational, etc. – are welcome), using FIVE out of SEVEN words from the following list:
• festival • project • lie • art • date • second • contract
2) Ensure there are no identifying markers on your submission such as your name, contact info, etc., to ensure blind judging.
3) Submit your work to WritersNL via email in a .doc file format. Send submissions to info@writersnl.ca using the subject line “You Crack Me Up.”
