The “Write Gift” from WritersNL

If you’d like to support the goals of a writer near and dear to you, we are happy to help you deliver an extra special gift this holiday season!

WritersNL Memberships can be purchased for new members by contacting our Member Services & Communications Coordinator at membership@writersnl.ca.

Please be sure to include the name and email address of the person you would like to purchase a membership for, as well as the membership tier you’d like to purchase:

How The Write Gift works:
WritersNL will process the payment (details below), then send you a receipt, as well as a customized Write Gift Certificate with the recipient’s name, and the sender’s name.
Upon receiving their Write Gift, the recipient can contact us to process their membership, and fill out a membership form so we can learn more about their writing interests!
After we receive the completed membership form, the new member will be added to WritersNL’s membership base, subscribed to WritersNL’s communications, and eligible to participate in all of WritersNL’s programs, services, contests, committees, and much more – It’s the gift that keeps on giving!

We accept payment in the following forms:
• Request an email invoice to be paid using a credit card
• Call us with your credit card info (please contact us to book a time!)
• Send an electronic money transfer to director@writersnl.ca using the password “WriteGift”

This fundraising initiative is intended to offer free memberships to those who may not be able to afford a WritersNL Membership, but have dreams of becoming a published author or poet. “The Write Gift” is our way of removing that financial barrier and helping people achieve their goals!

If you’d like to donate, WritersNL can receive donations in the same forms as membership payment:

• Send an electronic money transfer to director@writersnl.ca using the password “WriteGift”
The recommended donation is $25 for a student/senior/underemployed membership, but you can donate as much or as little as you’d like!

• Regular Membership (one-year) = $55
• Student/Senior/Underemployed Membership (one-year) = $25
Regular Membership (three-year) = $135
Regular Membership (five-year) = $225

*Please note that WritersNL is unable to offer charitable donation receipts as we are not a registered charity, but a non-profit organization*

The last time we offered The Write Gift in 2017, we received over $400 in donations during the winter holiday season, allowing us to offer more than a dozen free memberships to aspiring writers!

History of The Write Gift:

In 2017, WritersNL launched a membership donation drive called The Write Gift which encouraged the public to give the gift of writing this holiday season by donating one-year WritersNL memberships to individuals from marginalized communities. The Write Gift is about creating opportunities. It aims to break down barriers (financial and otherwise) that might prevent individuals from exploring the craft of writing and getting involved in the provincial literary community.

Donations gathered for The Write Gift have been previously gifted to the St. John’s Women’s Centre, Thrive: Community Youth Network St. John’s, and more.
