Valerie D. Maidment

Valerie D. Maidment is the  author  of From Daylight to Dark: Finding Work in an Inaccessible World,  chosen as a staff pick by her publisher, Friesen Press, December 2024. After losing her vision in 2008 she was determined to continue to work actively in her community. For over six years, Valerie was an entrepreneur as a business owner and a bookkeeper. Bookkeeping was Valerie’s first passion and now it is advocating  for the blind and visually impaired.   Forced  to give up her business due to her vision loss, Valerie’s goal is to break down these barriers and change what it is like to be blind today. A member of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind Valerie aims to educate the public about the barriers faced by people with vision loss and the need for accessibility. She has recently become a member of the CNIB Rural Advisory Committee. In her free time she enjoys reading, knitting and riding the ATV with her husband.
