Thomas Mengel
I’m a historian, writer, futurist, and retired academic. Much of my writing to date has happened within my professional and academic context. However, for years I have been experimenting with and published various forms of creative non-fiction (and some fiction) while working on my writing in workshops at the Axel Anderson Academy of Writing (Germany), the University of New Brunswick (Maritime Writers Workshop), St. Thomas University (Biographical Writing), Wesleyan University (Creative Writing Specialization), and most recently as a member of the Writers Guild at Story Grid.
Before joining academia, I have held project management and leadership positions and worked as an entrepreneur and consultant in Europe and North America. My major academic focus was on the significance of motivation, values, and meaning in the context of project management, leadership, social innovation and futures studies. These interests also fuel my creative writing endeavours.
Originally from Germany, I immigrated to Canada in 2002 (Slocan Valley in British Columbia). After 17 years of living and working in NB, I moved to Newfoundland in July 2022 – currently renting a lakeside home near Whitbourne – to help develop our cohousing community in Portugal Cove – St. Philip’s.
