Stacy Gardner

Stacy Gardner is a published poet (Room, Horseshoe, Black Moss Press, Women Writing Letters, and others), produced playwright (St. John’s Short Play Festival: After the Sirens and TELL; and Toronto Alumnae Theatre of her National CBC-commissioned radio drama adapted play, Worms for Sale).

An emerging filmmaker, her directorial debut of the short documentary, The Gaze, can be seen on CBC Gem’s, ‘Reel East Coast’ – season 9, episode 4; having premiered at AIFF, and screenedat SJIWFF. Her forthcoming film both written and directed by Gardner is titled, 73 Seconds, aPicture Start initiative funded by Picture NL, Telefilm Canada, NIFCO, and Arts NL.

Stacy held a 4-year term with Room Magazine as contributor/editor, proofreading, editing, interviewing subjects, and selecting short stories and poems for publication. Stacy has worked with, been mentored by such writers as: Sarah Selecky, Robert Chafe, Colleen Murphy, Stuart Ross, Bev Cooper, David Donnell, Judith Thompson, Robert Finley, and Megan Gail Coles.

Gardner has both an academic education in Journalism (Humber College) and Social Services (George Brown College), straddling both careers predominantly in Toronto, where she lived for 22 years, after her move from her beloved Bay of Islands. Her professional roles in Toronto varied from: a counselor and facilitator at Covenant House, to editor at Oxygen magazine, a news writer for CTV Newsnet, and production assistant for the decorating show, One House, Two Looks. Stacy was awarded an honourable mention as part of the Gold Circle Awards from Columbia University’s Scholastic Press Association for her non-fiction magazine article titled, Into the Abyss.

Since moving to St. John’s in 2013, Stacy has assumed other professional roles, such as: four years as the City of St. John’s Local Immigration Partnership Coordinator, a College Instructor at Eastern Academy in Child and Youth Work, Engagement and Outreach Specialist for Music NL, Common Ground, St. John’s Shorts, and consultant for ABC Life Literacy Canada and The Rooms on a provincially funded project.

Stacy has been facilitating inspiring creative writing workshops for more than 15 years, and has done so for: WritersNL, Women’s Works Festival, St. John’s Short Play Festival, the St. John’s Status of Women’s Council, and Old School Intergenerational. Gardner facilitates writing workshops from her home via her Quills on the Edge creative company (follow on IG and FB) and welcomes new and established writers.
