Sonja Boon

Sonja Boon is a writer, researcher, flutist, and teacher living in St. John’s. Her creative non-fiction has appeared in Geist, donttalktomeaboutlove.org, and The Ethnic Aisle, and is forthcoming in Room and two collections in 2020. She holds a Certificate in Creative Writing from the Creative Writing Program, School of Continuing Studies, University of Toronto, and in 2018, was awarded the Marina Nemat Award for her final project. In addition to this, her work was shortlisted for Room magazine’s Creative Non-Fiction contest (2015) and longlisted for CBC Canada Writes Creative Non-Fiction contest (2014). She published her fourth book, a critical memoir titled What the Oceans Remember: Searching for Belonging and Home in September 2019.
