Gabby Peyton

Gabby Peyton is a food writer and historian. She is a trained Art Historian with an MA in Art History from the University of Toronto specializing in ancient architecture (and spent three summers working on an archaeological dig in central Turkey) in addition to a Bachelor of Journalism from King’s College University and a BA in History from Memorial University of Newfoundland but started her food-writing career with her blog The Food Girl in Town in 2012 and has been freelancing ever since.

Gabby is the restaurant critic for The Telegram in St. John’s, and writes a monthly food trends column for the Saltwire network of 26 publications across Atlantic Canada. Her work on food culture and history has appeared in CBC, Eater, USA Today and Eaten Magazine, the world’s first food history magazine.

She spent two years writing a column for the Food Bloggers of Canada about iconic Canadian foods delving into the history of Canadian dishes like poutine, donairs and Hawaiian Pizza and is currently working on book about the history of Canadian restaurants set to be published by Penguin Random House in 2023.
