My book, The Alder Bed, is set in New Perlican, Trinity Bay, my hometown. I grew up there in the fifties and, after MUN, taught school at Morris Academy, Mount Pearl, and Booth Memorial, St. John’s. Further study “on the mainland” led to work in NS, first in Kentville, then, in ’77, Bridgewater, where I accepted the position of Guidance Counsellor at the high school. I’ve lived in Bridgewater ever since.

It wasn’t until after retirement that I turned to writing, worked on an idea in a very haphazard way for a while, then more seriously as it began to take shape. Over time, the story morphed into the tale of a family in New Perlican (the Fishers, what else) as told through the voices of five characters over almost fifty years.

The book was released by FriesenPress in October, 2018. It’s gotten only positive comments from readers and is doing well in spite of my low-key promotional efforts. It’s available at Cole’s in St. John’s (Avalon Mall, Village Mall) and Corner Brook, and at several Cole’s stores in NS. It will soon be in NL provincial libraries.
