Andrew Peacock

Andrew Peacock was born in Toronto and spent his early years in Kapuskasing in northern Ontario. After graduating as a doctor of veterinary medicine from the University of Guelph in 1982 he moved to Carbonear to begin practice. From 1982 to 2010 he worked for the provincial government looking after the farm animals on the western half of the Avalon peninsula. During this time he also attended to wild birds and mammals of every description and ran his own pet animal practice.

Andrew’s early literary efforts ranged from technical writing on veterinary subjects to articles for local papers and Decks Awash. Throughout his practice, he kept notes on interesting cases with the intent of someday writing a book on his adventures with the animals and people of his practice.

In 2012 he finished writing a memoir with a cast of creatures ranging from cats and dogs to cows and horses to caribou and humpback whales. Andrew is now represented by Robert Mackwood of Seventh Avenue Literary Agency and his memoir, “Creatures of the Rock” will be released by Doubleday Canada in November 2014.

He is now retired from clinical vet practice and lives in Freshwater (Carbonear) with his wife Ingrid and an Australian Shepherd named Charlotte. As well as writing with the Saltwater Writers’ Circle, Andrew is involved with photography, running, bicycling and the outdoors. His wife and he can be found each month at the Freshwater Coffeehouse playing obscure Beatles songs.
