(February 14, 2020 – St. John’s, NL) – When the Writers’ Alliance and Black Ink Romance asked local authors to show us how you love by submitting sweet or steamy stories to our 2020 Valentine’s Day writing contest, we never could have imagined such an overwhelmingly positive response to our query!
This year’s writing contest yielded a whopping TWENTY-FIVE stellar submissions, leaving our jury of best-selling and award-winning authors with the very tough job of determining the top five entries.
All writers were invited to attend our Valentine’s Day event, held at Boca Tapas Bar in downtown St. John’s on Wednesday, February 12.
The top five submitters read their submissions aloud for the gathered crew filling up the small underground restaurant. After the readings, the audience voted on their favourites, leaving us with a top five, and their prizes listed below:
First: Ryan Belbin
• Manuscript Evaluation provided by Black Ink Romance
• Consultation on taxes and accounting for writers with Pauline Martin Gift Certificate from Ches’s Fish and Chips ($50 value)
• 2 Cineplex movie tickets (Provided by CAA Atlantic St. John’s)

A Romance Writing Contest
(January 16, 2020 – St. John’s, NL) – The Writer’s Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador is passionate about passion! And we want to share in the love with Newfoundland and Labrador romance authors.
Whether you’re an established, published author or an emerging, aspiring writer, we want your best romantic scene, to a maximum of 1,000 words. We’re looking for swoon-worthy, polished submissions.
What’s in it for you? The chance to have your work reviewed by internationally bestselling and award-winning authors from local romance publisher, Black Ink Romance, not to mention some incredible prizes!

Our top five submissions will be announced at an upcoming romance-themed event:
7 p.m. on Valentine’s Eve, Feb. 12th at Boca Tapas Bar in downtown St. John’s.
Writers of the top selected submissions will be invited to read their work for an audience vote!
The top three audience favourites will receive prizes and of course, bragging rights!
