2019 Christmas Story Contest Winner + Honourable Mentions Our 2019 Christmas Story Contest, in partnership with The Newfoundland Herald wrapped up mid-December, and wow, it was such a special holiday delight to read so many creative stories from our provinces’ young writers! Working with a prompt of “Santa’s Backstory,” almost FORTY young writers submitted gorgeous works of creative fiction. In the December 15-21 edition, The Herald published Grace Kennedy’s “How It All Began,” and “Birthday Traditions in the Big Land” by Zoey Russell. (pictured below!) In the December 22-28 edition of The Herald, you’ll find more honourable mentions — “Santa Drives a Snowmobile” by Erica House, “The Gift of Magic” by Bianca Sampson — on pages 14-17. You can also read text versions of the entries here: Thanks to The Newfoundland Herald staff — especially managing editor Pamela Pardy Ghent and staff writer Dillon Collins for helping us sift through these entries to find our winner! It was a tough competition, and everyone who submitted is a winner in our eyes! Snag a copy of The Herald at any local convenience or grocery store, or purchase digital copies online! Thanks again to The Newfoundland Herald and Stirling Communications International for this amazing partnership! |
