“Writing Features for Magazines & Newspapers:” A Workshop w/ Amanda Bulman!

Please note: Registration for this workshop closed at 6 p.m. on March 27.

Feature writing is a unique beast—a place where writers have a chance to blend storytelling and reporting.

In this workshop, we’ll explore and examine different types of features.

We’ll learn about constructing a pitch, conducting an effective interview, organizing the structure of the story, writing a dynamic opening line, and closing the piece effectively.

This session will take two hours and will require a bit of advanced preparation.

Reading List Selections:

• Love in the Time of Robots by Ellen Gamerman

• America’s Midlife Crisis: lessons from a survivalist summit by Stephen Marche

• Violinist has the World on 2 Strings by Steve Lopez

PLEASE NOTE: THIS WORKSHOP IS OPEN TO WANL MEMBERS ONLY.

Andie Bulman is a chef, writer, stand-up comic, and librarian. She believes passionately in teaching farming, foraging, and food skills to young people. You can find her work online with CBC and in Harrowsmith magazine. Additionally, she’s currently writing two television shows for Bell Fibe, working on putting together a feature-length radio documentary, co-writing and co-producing a sketch comedy show that will (god willing) be on the mainstage at the hall in March as part of the RCA Presentation Series. She’ll be releasing her first cookbook this coming fall through Breakwater Books.
