SATURDAY NOVEMBER 16, 2019

11AM – City of St. John’s City Hall Foran/Greene Room

A Brunch of Writers – Meet and greet with other writers over a buffet brunch including scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, tea biscuits, toutons, cinnamon rolls, chilled fruit juices, Jumping Bean coffee & tea.

1PM – City of St. John’s City Hall Foran/Greene Room

Workshop: Developing your Author Brand – Learn about building a social media platform, developing your brand and marketing as it specifically relates to selling both print and electronic books. The talk will include marketing both from the perspective of the author as a brand and the book as a product.

3PM – City of St. John’s City Hall Foran/Greene Room

Workshop: Making your Word Count – Struggling with finding the time to write? Get the hang of organizing a writing routine including plotting, achieving daily/weekly goals, scheduling and when to start editing. Workshop will include word sprints and have detailed discussions about outlining and plotting.

7PM – Eastern Edge Gallery

WANL Pitch Wars – Enter for the chance to do a two minute pitch of your project to a panel of publishers at this fun and informal event. Panel includes James Langer from Breakwater Books Ltd., Jerry Cranford from Flanker Press Ltd., Gavin Will from Boulder Books, Matthew LeDrew Engen Books, Victoria Barbour from Black Ink Romance and Marnie Parsons from Running the Goat, Books & Broadsides. Must be 19 years of age and older.

2019 Writers’ Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador Annual General Meeting

Panel: Preparing to Publish & Trends in Publishing
Ready to publish but unsure what that means or how to start? Panelists will discuss how prepare to publish and trends and challenges on querying, editing, traditional publishing or self-publishing and more.
Panelists: Jenny Higgins, Scott Bartlett, Angela Churchill and Tom Moore. Facilitated by Andrew Peacock.

*HOW TO REGISTER*

Registration for the 2019 WANL Conference gives access to all events at St. John’s City Hall Foran Room on Saturday Nov 16, 2019 including A Brunch of Writers, Workshop: Developing your Author Brand and Workshop: Making your Word Count.
Early bird registration $50 for WANL members only. Deadline Oct 28th at 5pm NST.
After Oct 28th registration $60 and open to non-WANL members. Deadline November 8th at 5pm NST.

Register for Pitch Wars:
Pitch submissions open to pre-registration from WANL members only. Submit by emailing info@wanl.ca with your name, email, writing genre and one sentence description of your pitch with the subject line “WANL PITCH WARS.” Deadline Oct 28th at 5pm NST. Event will be open to the public to attend. Must be 19 years of age and older.
