Writing Real Life:
A Non-Fiction Writing Course
for NL Youth 18 to 30

Have you ever wanted to write up a meaningful story from your own life or someone else’s?

Have you ever wondered how to publish an article that brings readers up to speed on a subject you’re passionate about or convinces them to agree with your opinion on a hot-button topic?

In this FREE six-week course, you’ll learn the basics of four types of non-fiction writing — personal narrative, opinion, expository, and interview — and how to get that writing published.

Participants will come out of the course with the skills they need to write for Artforce NL’s next anthology, On the Edge: Being Young in a Precarious Province.

Instructor Ainsley Hawthorn, PhD, is an author and cultural historian based in St. John’s. She writes for CBC, blogs for Psychology Today, and edited the critically acclaimed anthology Land of Many Shores: Perspectives from a Diverse Newfoundland and Labrador (Breakwater Books 2021).

Classes will be held online over Zoom:
