CANCELLED – Multicultural Literature: The Importance of Diversity and Inclusion – A Lecture by Lee Maracle
November 21, 2021
We are shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of legendary and prolific poet Lee Maracle.
WANL had Lee Maracle booked as a keynote speaker for WANL’s upcoming AGM next weekend. Lee was set to deliver a lecture on the topic of “Multicultural Literature: The Importance of Diversity and Inclusion.”
This event will regrettably be cancelled.
From WANL’s Executive Director Jen Winsor:
“As a leading voice in Indigenous literature, we were honoured when she agreed to speak at our conference this year on the importance of diversity and inclusion in writing. Her life’s work focusing on the treatment of Indigenous people, particularly Indigenous women, will surely continue to inspire writers and readers for years to come. I feel richer for simply haven spoken to her on the phone a few times. She was truly an incredible person.”
“My life has been a long, slow journey over very sharp rocks, but goddamn it if I didn’t dance over every last one of them.”
— Lee Maracle
Rest in Power, Lee Maracle.
The Writers’ Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador is ecstatic to offer a lecture on diversity and inclusion with Lee Maracle.
This event will be presented for FREE and open to the PUBLIC – Register now to attend!
2021 Poetry Newfoundland and Labrador Book Award shortlisted author Michelle Porter will be introducing our keynote speaker.
