CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: A Nightmare in Mount Pearl 2022!

September 13, 2022

WANL’s 2022 Halloween Spooky Story Writing Contest is officially open for submissions!

Every year, WANL’s esteemed Membership base continues to amaze and scare us, not only with their sheer talent, but with the darkness they can conjure when asked to dive deep into the disturbing and depraved…

This year, we’re excited to continue our partnership with Association for the Arts in Mount Pearl to present the 2022 winning submissions virtually via YouTube as well as IN-PERSON in Mount Pearl!

As we have done in previous years, an educated and professional jury of writers, actors, and horror fanatics will adjudicate the submissions, creating a shortlist of the top six entries.

Readings will be available on WANL’s YouTube channel on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, allowing horror fanatics, Halloween enthusiasts and the local writing community to vote for their favourite creepy creations. Voting will remain open for SEVEN DAYS.

The 2022 A Nightmare in Mount Pearl Spooky Story Contest Screenings + Winner Announcements will take place at a special location (stay tuned for details!).

After airing our recorded screenings, in-person attendees will be able to cast a final vote for their favourite spooky stories – we’ll tabulate the results in real-time, and celebrate this year’s winners together, both in-person and via live-stream on location.

And the 2022 prizes are…

🥇 1st Place: $350
🥈 2nd Place: $250
🥉 3rd Place: $150

Contest Details:

Contestants are welcome to submit flash fiction original material of any genre. Writing format is open to all: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, monologues, etc.

Contestants will be asked to record 5-7 minute long readings of their submissions, which will be shared on WANL’s YouTube channel + social media platforms.

Contestants will be responsible for recording + submitting their own readings:
• to be shot at the highest resolution possible
• in landscape mode (horizontally)
• in a well-lit and quiet environment
• for a total 5-7 minutes each, to a maximum of 7 minutes
• to be delivered in an mp4 format
+ bonus points for Halloween themed decor!

As we have done in previous years, an educated and professional jury of writers, actors, and horror fanatics will adjudicate the submissions, creating a shortlist of the top six entries. The general public will then be able to watch all recorded spooky tales and vote for their favourite.

PLEASE NOTE: this contest is open to WANL Members only.
Contestants can become WANL Members upon submitting.
