Apply for Mental Health First Aid Training Course with WritersNL

One in five people will experience a mental health challenge this year. Yet, one of the biggest barriers to offering support is often not knowing what to say.

WritersNL, in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Newfoundland and Labrador through the Community Lifelines Fund, is pleased to offer a limited number of our members the opportunity to participate in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training.

This 9-hour interactive course begins with a self-directed 2-hour module, which provides foundational knowledge and strategies. Participants will then engage in a virtual training session on March 13th from 9 AM – 4 PM, where they will apply and practice these skills.

What You’ll Gain

Mental Health First Aid equips participants with the knowledge and confidence to support adults (18+) experiencing mental health challenges. Past participants have reported feeling more prepared to engage in meaningful conversations about mental well-being with their family, friends, workplaces, and communities.

In this course, you will learn how to:
✅ Recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis.
✅ Have conversations that encourage a person to: Talk about declines in their mental well-being.
✅ Discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being.
✅ Reach out to these supports.
✅ Use MHFA actions to maintain one’s own mental well-being.
✅ Assist in a mental health or substance use crisis.
