April is poetry month and we are celebrating with our friends from Writer’s NL and Spoken Word St John’s. Join us on the 3rd floor for our Open Mic Poetry Night!

Meet our three featured readers:
MARK CALLANAN (City Of St. John’s Poet Laureate)
Mark Callanan is the author of three full-length collections of poetry. His most recent, Romantic, was shortlisted for the 2021 international Derek Walcott Prize for Poetry, and was a CBC “best Canadian poetry of 2021″ selection. He co-edited The Breakwater Book of Contemporary Newfoundland Poetry and was one of the founding editors of the St. John’s-based literary journal Riddle Fence. He lives in St. John’s where he is the current Poet Laureate.

SAMM JOYY
Samm Joyy is a writer from St. John’s, Newfoundland and has been active in the local poetry scene for over a decade. Joyy helped lead Spoken Word St. John’s (SWSJ) from 2014-2022, has been a volunteer with WritersNL since 2021 and was the editor on the chapbook “The Birds Come Back in the Spring ” by Hannah Jenkins (2022).

NICOLE OBIODIAKA
Nicole Obiodiaka is the founder of Centra, an organization committed to curating cultural experiences through theatre & film. She has starred in various theatre plays in her home country – Lagos, Nigeria. Where she also performed spoken words. Nicole is passionate about celebrating black culture through theatre and multi-sensory cultural experiences.
