Maxwell Fred Parsons

Maxwell Fred Parsons was born at Lushes Bight, Long Island, NL, on September 17, 1942. He was one of 8 children born to Hubert and Winnifred Locke-Parsons. He graduated from Memorial University with a B. A. (Education) Degree and achieved a Grade V Teaching Certificate from the NL Department of Education in 1985. In 1992, after spending 30 years in classrooms at Kings Point, La Scie, Buchans, and Roberts Arm, he retired from the profession that he thoroughly enjoyed.

He volunteered in various capacities at Roberts Arm and the GBS area for some 58 years. His involvement ranged from serving with the RAFD, Red Cross, Church boards, Tourism, local correspondent for newspapers and radio, P. C. District Association, NLTA branch, to leadership roles with civic and CHY Celebrations at Roberts Arm. It was there that he and his wife, Betty Jean, raised their 3 children – Michael, Monique, and Christopher.

Parsons was instrumental for engaging the Montreal-based CMJ Productions crew to film the Monster Quest episode: “The Lake Monster of the North.” This documentary, featuring Parsons himself, was aired on the History channel in September, 2008. He also served as a resource person for Chapter 5 – Lake Crescent- in the 2006 publication “Lake Monster Mysteries” by American authors Benjamin Radford and Joe Nickell.

Following the death of his wife in July, 2023, he embarked on writing a collection of short stories depicting incidents of his growing up on Long Island. He currently has sufficient stories penned for Volumes 1 and 2 of his collection and is ready to self publish. He currently resides at the Queensway Senior Cottages in GFW, NL.
