POETRY READINGS FOR 22ND NATIONAL POETRY MONTH
Theme: “A World of Poetry.”
“We hope that this theme will inspire conversations, poems, and dialogues about the many ways poetry is expressed and honoured around the world, as well as the cultural impacts of poetry in different regions. We encourage poets from around the world to speak and write about what poetry means for their life experiences, perspectives and identity as well as the roots of poetry in their culture or country.”

POETRY READINGS FOR NATIONAL POETRY MONTH
The Writers’ Alliance of Newfoundland & Labrador (WANL) is seeking expressions of interest from emerging poets who would like to participate in the Canadian League of Poets’ National Poetry Month readings.
This is a paid opportunity.
ELIGIBILITY:
Applicants must be WANL members in good standing.
(Applicants may become a member at the time of submission.)
Applicants should have enough original poetry to give a 5 to 10-minute reading.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Expressions of Interest must include:
Your contact information including full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address; and a 10-page sample of your poetry.
If you have any experience giving readings or presentations, or any other relevant experience, you may also feel free to include a summary of your experience.
Please note: reading experience is not required.

Please submit via email, using the subject line “National Poetry Month 2020″
Provide contact information in the body of the email.
Attach a 10-page poetry sample (+ any relevant experience) as a PDF document.

National Poetry Month began in the US in 1996, spearheaded by the Academy of American Poets on the steps of a post office in New York City. There, the story goes, Academy staff members handed out copies of T.S. Eliot’s poem, “The Waste Land,” which begins, “April is the cruellest month…” to individuals waiting in line to mail their tax returns. Established in Canada in 1998, NPM now brings together schools, publishers, booksellers, literary organizations, libraries, and poets from across the country to celebrate poetry and its vital place in Canada’s culture.
