Congratulations to the winners of WritersNL’s Space and Time Contest for Youth Members ages 30 and under!
(November 19, 2024) – WritersNL is thrilled to announce the winners of our latest Youth Writing Contest, “Space and Time,” in partnership with the Johnson Geo Centre!
We challenged our Members aged 30 and under to dive into the unknown and create stories in any genre or style—inspired by the concept of outer space and/or time.
And wow, did they deliver!
This year’s contest had 15 submissions from incredible young writers across Newfoundland and Labrador. After blind judging by the WritersNL Youth Committee, we’ve got our top six picks.

The Winners of “Space and Time” Youth Writing Contest are:
In the under 18 category:
🥇 1st place- $100: Off the Beaten planet by Rachel Spurrell
🥈 2nd place- $65: My day on Earth by Abbigail Brown
🥉 3rd place- $35: Lost in space by Kai Jesso
In the 19-30 category:
🥇 1st place- $100: “Blindsided” by Emma Cole

WritersNL is excited to announce our brand new writing contest for Youth – “Space and Time!”
For this contest, we’re asking Youth Members ages 30 and under to create a piece of writing inspired by the concept of outer space and/or time.
Participants can write in whatever genre or style they prefer as long as there is some connection to space or time (give us drama, give us sci-fi, shoot for the stars and give us whatever you feel is best!). We will accept all submissions totalling 1,000 words or less.

This writing contest is open to all WritersNL Youth members ages 30 and under.
We understand that Youth Membership at WritersNL encompasses a wide range of writers. To help encourage our members who are under 18 years old, we are experimenting with a new structure for awarding Youth contests:

You can send your submissions to WritersNL via email in a .doc file format with identifying information (such as your name) removed from the document to ensure blind judging.
