Congratulations to the authors of the winning entries of WritersNL’s 2023 Winter E-Zine!
For the third year in a row, WritersNL asked its talented membership to craft winter and/or holiday-related stories for a special E-Zine released just ahead of the annual December holiday break.
We hope that reading the top five entries from some wonderful local writers will brighten your spirits during this long, dark winter, and add a little extra joy into your day during this busy time of year.
WritersNL wishes to thank everyone who submitted to this year’s E-Zine. We received a whopping 34 entries – a record-breaking number of submissions!

Call for Submissions: WritersNL’s 2023 Winter E-Zine!
Celebrate Winter Traditions with a WRITING contest from WritersNL!
As we did in 2022 and 2021, we’re marking the holidays by toasting to our local authors! To celebrate the busy holiday season, with Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, the New Year, and more, we want to read YOUR stories about what brightens your spirits during the long, dark winter season.
Our 2023 theme is open to many interpretations: holidays, winter, family traditions and celebrations, and more. Fiction, non-fiction, prose, poetry – all formats are welcome for submission.
The top submissions will be compiled into a holiday/winter-themed e-zine, to be distributed electronically to WritersNL’s membership base – now boasting 500 members… That’s 1,000 eyes reading your work.

In this E-Zine, WritersNL will print five stories, with prizes for the top submissions:
🥇 1st Place: $250
🥈 2nd Place: $200
🥉 3rd Place: $150
🏅 Our two runners-up will receive $50 each.
Contest Details:
– Contest is open to WritersNL Members only.
– Limited to one entry per person.
– Entries, regardless of format, can be a maximum of 500 words.
– Poets can submit more than one poem, up to 500 words.
– Winter E-Zine 2022 winners are ineligible for entry.
– All identifying markers will be removed from entries, to be submitted to a jury who will select the top readings.
Submit your stories as a .doc file to info@writersnl.ca, using the subject line “Winter E-Zine.”
Deadline for entries: 5 p.m. on December 9, 2023.
The e-zine will be released digitally on Thursday, December 21, 2023 on the Winter Solstice!
