Alex Bill

Alex Bill is a journalist in St. John’s and the editor of allNewfoundlandLabrador, where he covers business and political news and manages a newsroom of seven reporters.
His debut non-fiction work, Dangerously Close to Contempt, is about his father, Roger Bill. Despite an obvious and admitted bias, the book brings journalistic rigour to a family story, with extensive research and dozens of interviews exploring the largely unknown experience of Vietnam War resisters in Newfoundland, the development of a built heritage activist community in the 1970s, and Bill’s life as a journalist, including festering tensions with the Catholic church in Newfoundland and foreign entanglements such as the Tiananmen Square protests, the Gulf War and Yugoslav Wars.
A lawyer by trade, Alex followed his parents into the journalism world in 2015. He writes non-fiction, but is open to exploring new creative opportunities in the limited space that his work and full life with his wife and daughter allow.
